Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

I'm sure I could figure this out with some trial and error, but I would rather not burn up my switch. Does anyone recall seeing a diagram for a standard 3-way blade switch (think Telecaster) used to select the coils on a single humbucker? The SD site has a diagram for the P-Rails, but it uses a mini switch instead. Thanks in advance.

It is certainly possible to employ a CRL type switch for mode switching - series, split, parallel.

Neck, both, bridge switching implies parallel only coil operation. Fine for a Lace Dually, perhaps, but less than ideal for the majority of dual coil pickups.

What would work, of course, is the four-way lever switch circuit for Telecaster. This diagram is available in the Support section. You will have to adapt it to your needs.

It would stand to reason that, since the 4-way switching allows for series, that a standard 3-way would - if series was the only dual-coil operation you wanted (though I agree - the flexibility of the 4-way would rock... which is why it's in my Tele).

The outputs would be on one pole. The destination of the finish end of the second coil would be governed by the second pole.

Gimme a sec. I've got one lying around here somewhere. ;)

Here's 'til I find something better:

In the middle position, do you want the coils in series or in parallel? If you want series, I believe you need a switch with an isolated middle position, in which case you will probably need to go for a Super Switch (5 way) or a 4 way switch, which will give you series, parallel, or each coil on its own.

Yeah . . . sorry. I was in a rush. That diagram is to do series/split/parallel on one humbucker. Probably not what you wanted.

It looks like it will have to do. I should be able to use the switch, but I need to figure out how to make the center position an "off" spot. I will just have to play with it until I figure it out.

Re: Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

What exactly do you want your switching options to be?

Re: Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

You can't get what you want from a standard three way blade switch...you can only get parallel in the middle position. To get series, you'll need the Tele four way blade switch as Funkfingers said. But it's a very useful switch, I have it in my #1. The advantage is that you can get each coil separately, both coils parallel, and both coils series.

Another option is to get a Triple Shot mounting ring to get all four options, and free-up the blade switch for some other purpose.

Re: Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

Thanks for the input. I've resigned myself to the split, series, parallel switching. For the most part I only use series anyway and I don't want to add any extraneous switches. I'm sure I'll be happy with what I have.

Re: Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

Why don't you spit out 40 bucks and get a Duncan triple shot mounting ring?

Re: Diagram for a 3-way Blade Switch to select the coils on a humbucker.

^ Certainly that is the best option by far.

I don't see the issue. A humbucker is just two coils and, your diagram can easily be addapted for two pickups.
Green = pickup A negative
Red = pickup A positive
White = pickup B negative
Black = pickup B positive

But, I've understood the OP was asking for just one humbucker.
I don't see the point.

Exactly. I believe we can get to anything you want with a standard 3-way, but I need to be clear on exactly what that is.
Can you tell us that? Screw/parallel/Stud, screw/series/stud, screw/off/stud???

Heh . . . there was no subliminal message intended in that last option. :D
