Did Ed Roman pass away?

Re: Did Ed Roman pass away?

yeah it's sad. Really opinionated guy, had a huge passion for quality guitars. Sounds a lot like me.

RIP

Re: Did Ed Roman pass away?

It's sad that somebody died. I'll give you guys that. Besides that one little thing, the world won't miss him. He was a man without a single scruple and respected NOBODY'S rights. He stole designs and played them off as his own; he even took manufacturer's photos from their struggling websites and said they were his, one of which is a good friend and another of which, is at least, a friendly acquaintance.

It's a goddamned miracle he lived this long at 5' and 300lbs. He had a good run.

5 replies and already more negative than positive and I'd bet money that no one that's posted in the thread thus far ever delt with Ed one on one...

This is why I didn't start a thread myself...

One on one is irrelevant.

He stole pics of a guitar BTMN had put together by Ben Chafin and passed it off as his own build. HE HAD GENE'S PICS ON HIS SITE.

He advertised at least 2 KxK models, with pics stolen from the KxK site, AS HIS OWN. One, I can't remember, but the other was the Karl Sanders Warrior V. Now, he has a model that's a blatant ripoff of it.

These are the run ins I've had with the man. IMHO, he was a worthless, pot-stirring, thieving, credit-taking piece of ****ing ****. How's that for you, man?

I have, and he was a dick.

His legacy in death was created in his life. It is what it is, and he was who he was. His dying doesn't suddenly make him not a dick anymore.

That said, his personality is what made him famous and interesting, even if a lot of it was negative. I bet when most of us go there won't be multiple threads about it on various guitar forums.

On the human side he was still a person with a family and friends. So RIP to Ed and strength to his loved ones.

I started reading some of his rants (never actually bothered until now) and the first thing I stumble across is a clearly fake study and interview with an apparently fictional psychologist bashing the people that bash him.

Whether he made it up or someone else did and he just used it without verifying it's veracity is, to say the least...interesting. It's probably the latter.

Now, even though no one should resort to hypocrisy and sing his praises, it still doesn't feel right to bash a dead man, it's a bit too soon. It's not like he was a Hitler on the Evil-o-Meter. He was bashed enough in life, have some respect for the dead.

Respect is earned. Everybody dies.

Re: Did Ed Roman pass away?

He was a very successful businessman with a passion for guitars. If he was as shady as people make him out to be, he wouldn't have been in business this long, his repeat customers must have come from somewhere. I bought parts from him, if there ever was any problem he quickly rectified the situation. His site is an almost encyclopedia of guitar information you can't find anywhere else. He was a good man, but primarily a businessman, and any successful businessman is going to not be liked by some.

I understand why you're so against it, and I agree partly, but I'm looking at it almost from the reverse point of Omerta if it makes sense...you know, a wounded man says to his assailant "If I live, I will kill you, if I die, all is forgiven."

I'm not entirely sure if it's understandable. I'll try to elaborate if it's not.

While it's true I never met him personally, I did do business with him on a few occasions. We are what we do and our reputations follows accordingly. I never met Richard Nixon either. On the other hand I've never met anyone who felt they needed to have had dinner with him to know he was a scoundrel.
