Its between these 2 amps for the "do it all amp". I have a Metroamp 12000 series on the way this fall for my hairmetal fix but not sure about which one of these I should get.

ENGL - all Diezel's are completely overpriced and not even that special.

I have experience with neither as you know Jeff, but didn't you say that ENGL distortion tends to only be good for rhythm playing? (Cleans aside of course.)

Re: Diezel Herbert or Engl SE

The Powerball and Fireball are voiced such that they excell at stop-on-a-dime, tight as **** chug-type metal, a la Meshuggah.

The SE, Savage, etc, have some of the most amazing lead tones I've ever heard.

Re: Diezel Herbert or Engl SE

I've been leaning ever so slightly towards the Engl too but I would like to hear more. There's a Herbert in stock very close to where I live but I'm going to hold back another couple of months before I pull the trigger.

Re: Diezel Herbert or Engl SE

they are both great amps and i played them both.in my experience ,The süecial edition is more bright voiced than the herbert. The herbert has more deep bass frequencies to deliver and it is more confortable to play on c or 7 string.
iff you are going to play more deeper tones ,go with the powerball or herbert ,if you want to play super lead and creamy distortion ,go with the special edition or Vh4

Hearing Doug Aldrich through a Powerball dispels that myth......
