Difference between Barber Direct Drive & Direct Drive SS???

is SS just a modded version of original direct drive?
what are the main differences in sound?
which one is worth buying?
I heard DDSS in no longer in production is it because it's not good as Direct Drive?
have you ever compared them to Fulltone Fulldrive 2?which one excels?

I know there are lots of fans of the DD, but I didn't think it was anything special ... a bit too transparent for me
