Difference between the McCarty and Custom 22?

I'm looking into both models and was wondering if any owners or someone with some first hand knowledge could enlighten me? As you may or may not know, the Heritage H150 was returned due to binding issues. The quality control issue pissed me off to the point where I'm not replacing it (the fact it made it thru Heritage AND the dealer to my door step).

I'm looking for a guitar that can get the same beefiness that Les Paul gets. I like the sound the Custom 22 gets when I hear it live at various clubs, but was wondering how the McCarty would differ (it has the thicker body, correct)?

thicker body, different neck shape. thinner headstock, different pups, fixed bridge. 3 way and coil split

The McCarty will be closer to a Lester than the CU22. If you want a LP-a-like but don't want to go through either Heritage or Gibson, I'd check out the Hamer Monaco's. Great QC and at competitive prices. Besides, they already come with Duncans. :burnout:

I've owned both, and being a Les Paul player I gotta say the McCarty was much closer than the 22. The McCarty is thinker and warmer and just has an awsome tone. The pickups are weak IMO though, it would need a swap, and I like the locking tuners on the 22 better than the Klusen style on the McCarty, but I'd take a McCarty any day.

I responded to your PM already. All that being said, I never thought my McCarty's got me close enough to the LEs Paul to be completely happy. At the end of the day, I ended up going back to Les Pauls.

If you really want a Les Paul tone, you might just have to buckle under and search out a great Les Paul. The PRS does its own thing very well. Their trem is the best I've ever played. I had no problem with the vintage tuners, but locking ones are always welcomed.

I liked the fatter body, heavier McCarty's over the Custom line. Wife-Fat neck over WideThin neck any day.

Yep I agree. When I say Les Paul like, I mean it's like a Les Paul in it's thickness, fat, punchy, sustaining sound, but with it's own voicing that's different from a Les Paul. Not a Les Paul replacement by any means, but if you're a les Paul kinda guy, the McCarty will likely be the PRS you'll like best.
