Different designs, and manufactuing parts, really. Sometimes this acan "accidentally" make for a nicer vaalve. But no, to be spec-ed a 6v6, it has to adhere to , er, the specs. Larger plates, spiraled filaments are innovations within the spec, to increase performance/noise floor/gain etc. But a pocket rocket is just as likely to be a good tube as a big valve.

the November 2006 issue of Guitar Player (with John Frusciante on it) had a thing on power tubes. There's a start. Also the Groove Tubes website has info.

I smell a fix for an AOR 30 coming. Tell me how the JJ's workout in the AOR Pierre. I think they just may do the trick. My fingers are crossed.

Nah it already has the same 6V6s
I just got them as spares.
I wouldn't know the difference man... I barely ever use the amp, I still have the older valves but they were as old as the amp, close to 18 years old. Only been changed once, but put back in later. They were of the smaller size. I didn't compare the tone nor cared/wanted to. I just learnt how to bias, popped the new ones in, biased, didn't kill msyelf and that was it

All the 6v6 tubes I've seen are right around this size... these are NOS Sylvanias- with a Fender 5y3 rectifier tube on the right.
