Differences between Laney AORs and Series II AORs?

What are the differences between an original AOR50 8-knob and a Series II 8-knob?
I know the series II has lots of different output jacks and the original just has 2 and a switch. What else?
Which sounds better?
Cheers.

I think the general consensus is that the series 2 sound better. As to why, no idea.

One is no effects loop in a series 1, the series 1 has a direct out.

Both 8 and 6 knobs were made in both series.

I have heard the series 1 was made with better parts (ot/pt), the late-late 80's version was made cheaply, the 6 knob version was more reliable, the 6 knob version was a step down model from the 8 knob version, and so on.

You are likely going to have to change a resistor to get to something else other than EL34/E34/KT77 tubes. The 50 watter takes 2 power tubes, the 100 watter takes 4.

The amp I am looking at is an '88 Series 1 8-knob.
What is the difference between an effects loop and a line out->line in?
I've heard that the series ones sounded better, more open.
Is the amp worth £270 (240 + 30 postage)?

Sure is, one of the great bargains still available an ebay.

Cool, that okay then!

One of the uses of a line out is so you can go directly to a mixing board without using a mic.

I didn't think that the series 1 was made that late. I thought they stopped making the series 1 to go to the series 2. Early AOR's were Protubes in name with an AOR circuit. Later we saw the AOR sticker applied.

Yes, they can be confusing.

I'm still looking for AOR mods, if anyone runs into any.

Yep, this is a pro-tube aor first series.
The seller is insisting that it was made in 88, haha.
I am more likely to use the line out for recording, can you use it like an effects loop if you run it back into the line in?
I think I may aswell just get it before someone else does.

I have never tried that. The line out should bypass the poweramp and likely the EQ. I believe an effects loop is buffered so using the line out as an effects loop would push too much power out to the pedals.

Ah, okay. What's the difference between the line in and the normal guitar inputs then? I'm sorry that I'm not all techie, but to be honest I'm only 14. Haha.

Happy New Year!!
That's a good enough reason to bump if I ever heard one!

Re: Differences between Laney AORs and Series II AORs?

Oh yeah, I am guessing that mine will have 2 footswitchable channels because it is an 8 knob model. Could somone confirm this?
Thanks a lot.

Re: Differences between Laney AORs and Series II AORs?

The line in bypasses the preamp. I don't have a footswitch for mine, so others may need to correct me here, but I believe the last gain stage is footswitchable.

Aha. Would be cool if it is, but I could live without it. I wonder if a Peavey Studio Pro footswitch would work with it.
The seller is gonna let me have it got £250 so I think I'll get it.
