Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

Well never did I think I'd ever hear Digitech in the same sentance with awesome, but hear I am saying it.

Was at my local GC and they had the experience pedal, open box for $100

I was just a bit curious to see what it sounded like since I haven't played any of those "artist" pedal myself and sort of checked it out just to see how poor it sounded.

Low and behold, I was pretty blown away. It sounds like Hendrix!

Not like some generic patch thats got a vibe, fuzz and marshall emulation, but rather this thing pretty much nails an exact tone.

Which in itself is pretty weird because its not overly tweakable at all, it sounds like a recording and thats about it for each setting.

Total opposite of most pedals you know ? Usually you can get a range of sounds but trying to zero in on a certain tone is tough. Backwards logic here.

I've owned pretty much ever vibe pedal known to man, had tons of fuzz pedals etc and this thing sounds good belive it or not. Thats not worth alot if its from someone who's never owned a vibe for example, but I've had the Mojo vibe, mega vibe, uber vibe, voodoo vibe, micro vibe, deja vibe etc. I know vibe pedals.

Just like I know octave up pedals as Ive had the octavia, octavian, proactiva, octavio, octavius magnus, ultimate octvae fuzz, octane III and then some.

In the Purple Haze patch, the Octave effect setting really sounds and responds like the originals. Tracks over the neck just like them as well.

And the wah setting on Voodoo Child just nails the sound. Again, this is coming from a guy who's owned the RMC3, Picture Wah, Supa Quack, vintage Vox, Clyde etc. Its the exact sweep and hollow sound as the record.

Is it identical to Jimi's sound ? No, but unless its Jimi playing, nothing is going to be dead on, but its unmistakeably close.

Does it sound better than a Teese RMC3, Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz, Chicago Iron Octavian and KR Megavibe running into a 100w Plexi ?

No again but its a $100 pedal verses about $3000 or so for the actual gear.

Being able to get those tones for such little money is just really amazing to me.

I'm keeping this little guy with my practice amp now. Even into a little SS combo like my Tech 21 trademark 10 this guy really delivers.

Even if your not a huge Hendrix fan, this thing is worth the money just for a fun toy to have around to get some unique sounds.

Lets face it, 99% of us don't have a real need for either an Octavia or Univibe. Spend $700+ on two pedals you use once or twice a night ( Like I did lol) or maybe get something like this and have a bit of fun jamming those sounds for cheap.

I agree

What's even more interesting is that ADRIAN BELEW uses it in his live rig! I would too. I just wish it was easier to patch thru the sounds, but frankly, I could imagine it sounding great into a clean amp like a Fender.

I would go this route, but I have had too much success and comfort with the POD XT Live.

Digitech sells a 3 button footswitch that works on it I guess, buttons for patch up/down and the heel/toe settings. Its only like $30 so I'll probably pick one up.

One of the really cool things about this pedal as well is that you can get the fuzz tones at low volumes.

I've got a couple of awesome fuzzs right now, Hot Silicon, Axis etc but they really need to be ran into a cranked amp to sound right. Just sounds a bit harsh at low volumes, but with the Hendrix pedal, you can play some nice saturated fuzzed leads even at bedroom levels.

Again it doesn't sound exact, but for a little all in one solution late at night, its just stellar

I've hated (yes hated, not disliked but hated) every digitech product I've ever tried before this one. Legends, RP series stuff, stompboxes etc. All just sounded plain horrible to me.

I'm not the worlds biggest fans of Boss, Dunlop etc but their stuff I at least usually think of as alright, not great but useable. Digitech stuff was just the bottom of the barrel.

But whatever they did to make the Hendrix pedal sound as good as it does they should of really kept doing.

Maybe Eddie Kramer is a far more magical engineer than we ever imagined because he was supposed quite involved with this pedal and he knows those sounds probably better than anyone in the world (he was the engineer for those sessions who don't know)

This definatly needs to go on you guys list of things to check out. I did it just for what I thought was a laugh, but ended up going home with it

Maybe a bit off topic, but for the record, their cheap Bad Monkey Overdrive pedal is probably the best OD I have owned, and I have owned quite a lot of overdrive pedals.

Re: Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

Someone told me that it all depends on the guitar and amp you are using. The sound could vary greatly. Does this seem to be the case here? What if I used a les and a marhsall with this, think the sound would still be good?

Re: Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

i'd love to try this pedal.... i'm a huge Hendrix fan... i've never really had a strat and amp set up that comes extremely close to Hendrix's... mind you on my budget that is not surprising...

and the double bonus is i hate noise from strat PU's at the same time in my own rigs... go figure

Re: Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

It's stuff like this that will keep the prices down on the few awesome pedals they make :biglaugh:

It's Valley slang for that company. :laugh2:

Digitech it back for a refund?

DOD = Dead On Delivery, Donny Osmond Distortion. :biglaugh:

Yeah it does depend a bit upon what your using as a LP is going to sound different than a strat regardless of what your running it into. The same is true with my actual fuzz pedals etc.

That said, I have played it through my LP and it sounds pretty good. Not quite the same on all settings but still gets you ballpark tones. If you really want to get that Jimi vibe I'd suggest a strat, but still a fun pedal even with a LP. The voodoo child wah setting for example still really gets that cutting wah sound jimi had on that track even with humbuckers.

Re: Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

This uses the same audio processing as the RP series does by the way.

I've heard though and while I belive it, its hard to belive.

This has got to be the most undigital sounding digital/modeling effect I've ever used.

I've had pretty much all the modeling effects out there, L6 etc and this thing just does not come off as digital sounding. Even the fuzz which usually sounds horrible on most digital units is pretty warm and responsive. I even had the Ampltube Hendrix plugin and it didn't sound better than this thing.

Its an old outdated all digital effect I belive (though the Brian May does have an analog trebel booster circuit) so why its just able to nail a fuzzface/univibe through cranked Super Lead sound in a manner that I, of all people, actually like it, baffles me

Re: Digitech Hendrix Experience Pedal is actually pretty awesome

Generally with enough work and know how, the RP can make SOME sounds very good. Others not so much
If you removed all restrictions to programming the RP, and could program every aspect of the sound, and restricted processing to only the few sounds you want (why waste processor and programming space on a boogie model when you will only ever use the marshall one ) and really knew what you were doing, this is what you get. The RPs as far as I can tell are aimed at more of the Metal crowd, and they do that stuff pretty well.
This shows what the RP SHOULD be capable of.
