It's wired correctly. It's paired with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge. I'm using the clean channel on a Yamaha THR10 and my Classic 57 and SD Jazz Neck pickups sound normal when used in this guitar. Is this the 'air' gap technology that he uses that causes that effect. Small pieces of surgical type tubing that creates a gap between the bobbin and the spacers.\SFE II.jpg

Is it a subtle or drastic effect, if it's subtle it might just be that your rig combined with that pickup detects the imperfect oscillation/warble thing (I'm no physicist, correct me if I got the terminology wrong) much better than most pickups. Turn the gain up on your amp and strike a really loud chord. Even on a pickup without that problem you usually hear a slight warble instead of steady wall of sound.

Do you experience something that changes over time like a phaser?

I have a PAF 36th Anni in the neck of my Ibby Prestige, and it doesn't sound like a phaser at all. Just really fat and smooth.

I also had a 36th Anny in he neck of my LP for a while. Never heard the phaser thing. It was thick as molasses. Too thick actually. I swapped it out for a bluesbucker which is phenomenal.

Definitely not the "air" technology

Are you 100% certain that your wiring is up to par?

You know that DiMarzio and Duncan pickups don't share the same wire color codes, correct?

Is your pickup adjusted very low or high relative to the strings?

I am assuming you are talking about the single pickup tone without any other pickup selected at the same time.

What other wiring do you have.....sometimes small caps (like a treble bleed size) shorted to ground get give you a cocked wah tone.

Yes single pickup tone. Red is hot, green and braid to ground, black and white of both pickups to the tone push/push pot. No treble bleed components.
I think it's the 'air' technology combined with those 2 4" speakers in the amp. I put the phaser on at it's lowest setting and it does not have that much of a phase sound,
but it's different than Gibson or SD pickups that I have. I swear I read another post somewhere about someone having the same slight phaser sound but using high distortion.

Can you post a pic of your wiring?

What strings are you using...did you put new ones on when you made the pickup change?

Any other electrical things on in the room; like a ceiling fan, perhaps?

Re: DiMarzio 36th anniversary PAF sounds like I'm playing through a phaser.

Have a pair of 36's in a SG Standard. Stay low to mid gain and have not had this problem.

Maybe try a different amp. I would be more likely to blame a digital processing amp in the way it responds to different inputs. A pro-audio grade processer should not have any issues, but I'm not sure about the THR10.

I think it's the 6 recessed lights on a rheostat in my family room. I can hear a change if I move the rheostat up and down.
Thanks for the replies.
