You can make either one brighter by wiring them for spin-a-split, which gives unbalanced coils. You get full HB to full coil split, and everything in between. Unbalanced coils negate part of the 'humbucker effect' and therefore add some single coil sound, which is more treble and reduced mids. I don't like warm, muddy neck PU's, and this cures that.
