I'm a big fan of SD pickups ... using several. However, I'm really pleased at what these DM Area pickups are about.
I've had the 58/58/61 set in my G&L Legacy for some time now. At first, I stuggled with them until I found out the pickup height was the key. I've taken them out a couple of times ... just to put them right back in the next day. You can do searches here on those if you want to hear clips or see the journey I had discovering how to use these after initially being disappointed.
This week I put a set of Area-T pickups in my Schecter PT Tele. They really sound nice and it was really easy for me to set up being aware of the pickup height issue. Dialed them in really quick.
I think these are really close to the single coil sound that I like but are totally quiet. I think it's going to be really hard to go back. Not having to worry about changing the guitar's location ... neon signs ... etc ... and still getting good single coil like tones is a really nice place to be.
Anyway ... I'm a fan.
