Dimarzio areas or Ilich backplate or Kinmans

Hi all,

Second kick at this question. Not looking to debate if noiseless is as good as traditional or who played though what. Looking for opinions on three options for my #2 strat. #1 is modified early 90’s American Standard with CS 69s (neck shaved to 14”, jescar 6105s, Gotoh 510 bridge, mammoth ivory nut...). #2 is a new to me, 95 American Standard. Considering the same mods but I want this one to be quiet.

Considering:
A) CS 69s plus the Ilitch backplate
B) Dimarzio area 67’s
C) Kinman’s Blackmore set

I get that there are going to be subtle differences between the #1 strat and #2. Of the three options, which is going to make #2 sound closest to #1?

Thanks again all!

Probably the backplate with the same pickups. Kinmans are amazing pickups but if your goal is to sound the closest use the backplate and the 69s.

Thanks Golem,

I think the backplate from Illich might be the way to go. I might go with Suhr v70’s though so I’m not having the magnet stagger redone on this one too.

Play good notes

If you are considering the Areas, then you might want to look at the Duncan YJM set

What's a backplate? And what does it have to do with Lenin?

I just replaced 2 Dimarzio area 58s (n+m) with the corresponding STK-S4s. Big improvement. Didn't like the alnico 2 sound of the Area 58s. I'm finding more top end in the STKs.

It's a device that has a dummy single coil that converts your existing single coils into humbuckers to eliminate 60 cycle hum. It replaces the tremolo spring cover on the back of your guitar.

Ibanez did something similar with the 3 single coil Roadcore model a couple of years ago, but they mounted two dummy coils on the underside of the pickguard, between the pickups.
