I like it. Its probally one of Dimarzios best and most underrated pickups. Its thick and warm. If you have a bright guitar or amp or you are looking for thickness, I would get one.

Definitely one of DiMarzio's best pick-ups. It deserves to be more popular than the Tone Zone and the Evoultion in my opinion. A lot of my friends in fact have jump-shipped from the SD Invader and the DiMarzio Tone Zone to the DiMarzio Breed.
If you want a thick and yet clear tone from an alder or swamp ash guitar especially if it's equipped with a Floyd Rose, you can't get wrong with this. It's easy to get distorted or overdiven tones from the Breed whether it's chugga-chugga Nu-metal type sound, Black Sabbath or Deep Purple and the Breed for neck is good in nailing that classic Santana tone from Europa.
The caveat though is that I don't like the way it sounds clean. It's too "chunky" even of you split it and pair it with a glassy middle pick-up.

I haven't tried the Breed yet but will eventually. Like most Dimarzios, I'd be willing to bet it's under-rated bigtime. What I don't get is why so many jump right to the ToneZone which is such a niche/love/hate pickup. Dimarzio has so many beefed up pickups that are much more moderate.

The breed is a great pup overall, quite a big sounding pickup with lots of mids and bass and also alot of bite in the trebles. It will make a thin sounding guitar alot thicker and also it cuts through well. Its like a paf pro but with more "meat" to it, anyway there are lots of threads on the breed if you just do a search for it.

a little background on the Breed: Vai asked the Dimarzio camp to emulate a Les Paul like tone for his JEM & the Breed was the answer. i don't quite hear the emulation but it's a very good model per se...

The Dimarzio Breed is your best friend in a strat. I have a H-S-S configuration for my strat and the Breed is wat i have in the bridge. Its very Big sounding thanks to all those mids and can cover alot of different genres imo. When it comes to solos notes jump off the fret board with ease and i think its versatility comes from the fact that with a fine touch it can sound alot tamer but when just digging hard it really does go crazy imo.
I dont think Dimarzios description of the pick up on its website does it justice it makes it sound so ***** and kinda well boring it really is a great pickup i swear by it therell always be room for em on my strats in the future.
