DiMarzio D Activator and D Activator X

The D Activator is currently my favorite DiMarzio pickup that I have tried for metal in my RG. Has sweet harmonics and plenty of output and it also sounds good with the volume rolled back a bit for cleans. Very nice all around pickup. How does the D Activator X compare to it? Would it sound good and balanced in the neck in a basswood RG with a regular D Activator in the bridge? Or would the regular one be a better choice in the neck?

They do also have a d'actXneck model. I have had mine in a few different guitars and only liked it in guitars that are not very beefy.
I personally would not want the d'actX bridge model in the neck,,,,,,,but that's just me. Too much output and the wrong EQ-curve IMO.

The X series is darker/thicker than the regular D-Activators. I think the standard, non-"X" model D-Activator neck is the best match to the non-"X" bridge.

That said, DiMarzio told me twice that the D-Activator X "neck" model works amazing in the bridge. But, if you really like the way the standard D-Activator bridge sounds there, best to stick with it.

the Deactivator X slams the amp hard. I also have the regular Deactivator - on my randall diavlo it sounds like ratt metallica motorhead. The Deactivator X turns you into Ola England.

Are these just re-branded X2N's with a fancy name to attract new customers?

For the neck, wire in parallel to keep it from being too hot.

The "X" bridge is similar to the X2N in output and construction, but it's definitely a different pickup. The "X" neck is very different from both.
