Dimarzio D-Sonic

I just received my 540 Saber project from the mailman, and it has a DP207 D-Sonic in the bridge. Anyone using this pickup here - if so can you give me a quick rundown of what its good at?

Initial impressions are hot, warm, overwound, but this guiatr is in a bit of a state and I've done no setup yet.

Looking at the DMZ site it says the DP207 was designed for drop tunings.

Any opinions welcome - when I'm finished cleaninig, refurbishing and setting up I'd planned to try a CUOA5 and that pesky air norton.

Re: Dimarzio D-Sonic

It's one of my favorite pickups. I like to keep it low under the strings so it has a similar output to a hot alnico 5 pickup. The pole pieces have to be installed towards the bridge. If the bar is on the bridge side, it will be bright, drop-tune, mid-scooped, metal sounding.

Experiment with it clean and mildly overdriven because it can be really sweet with those sounds too. It's great for almost anything. With the pole pieces towards the bridge, it's very warm and still a little bright but smoother than the other way around. I would consider it bright in the way a Pearly Gates is bright. It's very warm.

It's just an awesome pickup. I can't wait until my D-Sonic arrives. I had one before and swapped it out for a Super Distortion, but I sold that guitar so I ordered another one for my Ibanez.

Re: Dimarzio D-Sonic

The D-sonic has a big ceramic magnet, so the magnetic field strength is high and the output is hot. Try to keep the pickups low and with the pole pieces towards the bridge.
