of the thrashy death variety... man with this pickup im feeling such a powerful sensation in my cab! It's blowing me across the room, the mids hit you right in the chest!

Try this p'up out, it's also a great lead p'up... one of the best i've tried!

Im using it with a HS-2 and a Al Di Meola Pup in the neck... it's such an outrageous combination

it's such such TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

i have a Double Whammy in an old beat up Basswood body parts axe with a floyd and an all maple neck.... great pickup!!!

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

it is a very VERY good death metal p'up.

Underrated: Like the Full Shred.

I wonder if duncan could make me a Full Shred with more mid range?

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

is the Double Whammy still in production? I have plans to build a better basswood strat out of Warmoth parts oneday to replace my beat up one and steal the Double Whammy out of it for it

Hmmm, it is a special order but for some reason in Germany and more commonly - Holland (where I am from, although I know live in London) they are availible off the shelves.

cool... thanks.. someone told me at a guitar shop once that the Double Whammy was discontinued when one of the Vai models was made based on it....

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

yeah, apparently it was the EVO2 that replaced it, it's not the same, but it's still got that WHAR quality.

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

Maybe the guy that wired his guitar with one back in 1989 wired it in parallel or single coil mode, but I thought it sounded wimpy when I played it. Nothing high gain about it.

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

Isn't a double whammy quite a bit warmer?

my basswood parts strat with the Double Whammy sounded warmer then my Les Paul does....

it's a great pickup for bassy midrange stuff.... but i'm sure the basswood body i have is part of the sound i'm getting as well

I almost got one for the neck position of and ibanez i used to have. A guy ws basicaly giving me two dimarzios and puting them in for m( before i learned how.)He said it was a rather warm pick up and i have heard that the tone zone is supposed to be simailar. No big deal just can't see it sounding anything like the evo 2.

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

oh, well I was told the EVO 2 was it's tonal replacement, the Tone Zone is pretty similar.

The DW is warm but not all that warm, it's definitely not muddy anyway

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

I may have to lay my hands on one for future use. See i was going to either have that or a norton(non air) in the neck with an evo in the bridge. I went with the norton. He said overall that the double whammy was very midrangey. I think it would be good in a guitar w/ balanced tonality. Sounds like itwould be a great lead pick up. Interestingly the evo 2 in my mahogany rg is a sweet lead pick up especialy for legato and tapping licks and not bad for picking. Double whammy would really sound good in my jem but i don't think i have he heart mess with it.

Supposedly switching to a A8 magnet will give more lower mids...

Re: Dimarzio Double Whammy DP150 is a winner for metal!!!!

interesting...

also I was talking to the Dimarzio boys, the DP166 - BREED is basically the DP150 - DOUBLE WHAMMY but with a tad more bass for Steve Vai(n) hehehe.

Whats interesting is that the basswood jem has the breeds and the alder one has the evos. I think maybe it should be the other way around. I think my jems bridge position (Alder)could benifit from a breed or double whammys added midrange. Plus i know from experiance that the evo in the bridge position of a basswood guitar is VERY :chairshotheavy sounding. I mean its sounds HUGE!!! Whereas it doesn't sound quite as big in alder but still good.

They still make it. You just have to have your dealer order it.
