DiMarzio + Duncan in one instrument?

Re: DiMarzio + Duncan in one instrument?

I don't think you would need to flip the magnets, but I'm not sure if they would be compatible. As I understand it, Duncans and DiMarzio pickups are voiced quite differently for the most part, so having the two different brands in one guitar might not work. But you could always try it, it might be interesting.

I have a Duncan Pearly Gates and a DiMarzio Virtual PAF in my Burns Double-Six. No flipping of magnets or reversing of any wires were necessary. They work and sound great with each other.

Thanks a lot, man. I appreciate the help. :)

Re: DiMarzio + Duncan in one instrument?

I've had both in the same guitar, no problems.

Air Norton in the neck and Custom in the bridge is a super fat, most righteous combination.

I have a Dimarzio Fred in the bridge and a 59N in my Gibson SG with no issues also and they work great together.

Sounds like it'd be most excellent. Thanks a bunch.

I'm a mixer too. Had a DiMarzio Air Zone and Alnico II Pro in one guitar. Sounded awesome.

The two can live together. :beerchug:

Re: DiMarzio + Duncan in one instrument?

Had a Dimarzio Super II in the neck and a Duncan 59 in the bridge in an Epiphone Les Paul and it sounded killer. The middle position gave that great classic quack or whatever you'd call it, LOL. Sounded just like when Page would do the middle pickup thing.

How about having Duncan and Dimarzio in one pickup? :D Half Dimarzio, half Duncan :D

What's next, cats and dogs living together???

Re: DiMarzio + Duncan in one instrument?

I had a DiMarzio Twang King neck pickup and a Jerry Donahue pickup in my Nashville B-Bender Tele, when I had it. While both DiMarzio and Duncan can be wired the same, Fender cannot. I wired the TK and JD up the standard way and flipped the wires on the middle pickup; which was a Texas Special Strat pickup. The guitar sounded great.

I agree with that awesome combo, I got the same thing going on in my strat, but I can get 2 additional tones for the 5 way switch(inner coils and outer coils) that sound great. The thing about a duncan and dimarzio hybrid would be a really interesting experiment to try.

I know Jason Becker used a JB/SuperDist combo in his guitars
and that Dimebag were using Dimebucker/SuperDist in the Razorbacks.
