Dimarzio "equivalent" to the SD SH-5 custom?

Hi!

This one is mainly for the sake of curiosity...

I have a Godin XTSA (mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and silvered maple body with poplar wings, which to the best of my knowledge is somewhat similar to a mahogany body, maybe a bit brighter IMO) and I am looking to swap the stock bridge pickup with a SD SH-5 custom. Something not too hot, to play a bit of everything from blues to thrash/doom/black metal stuff. Clean and high gain stuff...

Someone has any experience with Dimarzio pickups that could be "equivalent" to the SH-5? Yeah, I am aware they will not be identical, take note the quotation marks... ;)

Thanks!

Nothing from Dimarzio is that close to the SH-5 imo.

So you have a custom now but want a dimarzio version? Not sure what you're going for. What do you play?

I never understand these equivalent questions. Just get the one you want.

Super Distortion is the closest by far, especially when it comes to recorded tones. That said, they have their own things going on

Isn't the Transition bridge also a PAF on steroids sorta sound?

Super Distortion - in the ballpark.

People who don't normally use PAF style pickups might say the transition is PAF like, but I think its not correct at all. Tonal balance is completely different for one thing. The Transition has a much thicker and bassy sound than PAF style pickups. Sh-5 is a departure in the opposite direction, so they are going to sound very different.

I spent a lot of time and money trying to find the 'Duncan Equivalent of this' or the 'diMarzio equivalent of that'.

It's better just to get the pickup you want. Sometimes there are small differences like, 'if you want the basic sound of this pickup but with X and Y qualities, check this out.' This is especially true with variations on classic stuff like PAFs. But usually, just got for the pickup you want and set the guitar up correctly for it. Less headaches.
