Re: DiMarzio P-90 Humbuckers, Tone Zone & DLX Plus
I like T.V. Jones pickups but for me they would be more of a specialty pickup/guitar? What I mean is I don't think it would be something I'd play everyday or even once a week, it would sit in a case & only be brought out for certain songs? I really like the way this guitar plays & I'd like to try & get something in there that will make me want to play it often? As of now, out of 20+ guitars I think only one is set up with a H/H pup configuration? A few had Buckers in the neck when I bought them but I've since modified them & installed a Phat Cat or something comparable, I like S.C's in my neck pos.? I think I'm going with a DiMarzio Super Distortion & Virtual P-90 set, I'm hoping I'll get a nice hot Bucker sound from the bridge & the neck pickup, while a Humbucker, should retain some of the P-90 voice? All their other P-90 sized Buckers really are not trying to sound like a P-90, they are voiced like Humbuckers that will fit in a P-90 shell? The Virtual P-90 is a little bit different in that it does try to keep some of that P-90 thickness & grit but without the noise? I'm not sure I'll get the results I want but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!! If I don't get the sound I want from the neck I can always put the stock P-90 back in? For a cheep Duncan Designed pickup it act. sounds amazing, I org. was only going to replace the bridge pickup but like I said before I have quite a few H/S setups & not many H/H setups? Unless you count my Stratocasters, a few of them have a Everything Axe guard or some other kind of H/H/H, H/S/H & H/S/S guards in them but bladed S.C. sized Buckers just aren't the same? Not that they sound bad, I love the JB-jr & Lil 59, especially the Lil 59 Neck as a bridge pickup, something about it being a little less hot makes it sound so much better than the bridge model??? Prob. the closest I've ever gotten to a full sized Bucker sound, out of a S.C. sized pickup, hands down?
So I guess we'll see??????????????????????????????
