Dimarzio Pickups for Ibanez Jem?

A man I met plays for a band in an amusement park near where I live. He had to play several different genres of music in his show, and for this task he chose an Ibanez Jem70v (in the best color, Seafoam Green). I don't know him personally, but I caught him after the show and found out that we had a similar setup (Marshall DSL100 and a 4×12 cab with assorted pedals). He said he had a Gravity Storm neck and a True Velvet middle. He also said he kept the bridge stock because he didn't use it too often for his shows so he didn't want to invest money to change it.

To sum up my story, I'm wondering what Dimarzio bridge pickup would go well with the neck and middle that were on the guitar. It's not life or death if I don't get an answer, I just want to know what y'all Dimarzio users think would complete the trinity. I'm thinking a Tone Zone could match the thickness of the Gravity Storms, but that's about the extent of my DMZ knowledge. I do have a Jem Jr in storage though I would be willing to try this experiment out on. Thanks for any help.

Why not keep the stock evolution in the bridge? Its a fairly classic tone for a JEM.

Re: Dimarzio Pickups for Ibanez Jem?

I would hope the choice of a True Velvet to go in the middle is the bridge model.

You kinda need something like an HS-2 wired in split mode in order to get proper JEM tone with a pair of Gravity Storms.

Evo 2, ISCV2 and Evolution Neck is more or less the refined staple set.

But shoot, Christopher, why not go with a TB-5, SSL-1 and SH-2N? ;)

I was actually considering that exact SD set, but in my mind, one of the defining features of a Jem is the dual hex humbuckers. I am considering a Full Shred in the bridge, which I've heard is pretty similar to a DMZ Dominion.

The Gravity Storm bridge will be my safe bet for a bridge pickup, I usually like my guitars to have a similar EQ in the neck and bridge, but a different voicing. My "signature" pickup set is the PGn with a A2 59/C. They sound pretty similar, but the hybrid has its hybrid thing going and the PG has its flutey thing going.

And Teleplayer, the Jem Jr. comes stock with a set of generic pickups, the Evolutions come on the nicer models.

I agree - the Dominion is fat and has a kind of PAF'ish vibe to it while being a little tighter on the attack. Not sure it would be much like a FS.

Re: Dimarzio Pickups for Ibanez Jem?

I'm extremely skeptical about that. The Dominion is a warm pickup; the FS is anything but.

I was thinking the same thing, because I've played the Full Shred and I hear the Dominion is like a Tone Zone without the excessive bass, but the guy at Guitar Center insisted they were similar. And if we can't trust the guys at Guitar Center, who can we trust? :lmao:

Re: Dimarzio Pickups for Ibanez Jem?

I've always liked Tone Zones in Maple Board Guitars but they're pretty darn nice in Rosewood Boards as well. Currently have one in the Bridge of my '83 Kramer Pacer Imperial w/Stock Schaller Neck and another in my Ibanez RG550M/570FM Mutt paired w/a SD Lil '59 Bridge Model in the Middle (which I LOVE in that postilion and in positions 2 & 4) and an Air Norton in the neck. A lot of people don't care for the Tone Zone, but I've learned if you roll the Volume back it's a very, very nice sounding and versatile pickup for any genre.

Additionally; I just picked up a Blue Swirled Destroyer Bodied Guitar with a JEM Neck, DiMarzio Evolutions and an Original Edge Trem. Have played it a bit and I'm really liking the Evos a lot.

How well would a Dominion or Super Distortion (or Super 2 or 3) fit the bill?
