out of curiosity, anyone tried the steve's special and humbucker from hell combo? if you have any experience with them please chime in. i've got someone selling them really cheap and i am thinking of experimenting with them.

I've never tried the Steves Special but I have the Humbucker From Hell and I love that pickup. It's basically like a nice fat single coil in the shape of a humbucker. It's great for nice chimey cleans and has insane clarity for neck lead work. It's really like having a single coil in the neck but just a bit fatter than something like a Class of '55...it's got a bit more "ummph" to it.

thanks ranalli. output-wise it should be much hotter than a single coil right? did you wire it for splitting? i do like a single coil-y sound in the neck.

Re: dimarzio ss/hfh

Well it already sounds like a single coil more or less so I didn't bother splitting it although splitting it would definitely get you even closer to a real single coil with the humming and stuff and thin it out a touch more.

Outputwise it is hotter than most single coils....more like a cool PAF but very different feeling and sounding.
