dimarzio titan vs illuminator bridge

How do these two pickups compare? I have a Duncan distortion in my one Strat, but am wanting something different in my other. I was also looking at the EVO 2, but the first one was way to screamy and out of control. The second is prob about the same? Thanks guys.

If you didn't like the Evo because it was "screamy and out of control" you really should give the Evo 2 a try. It has more mids and less output than the Titan or Illuminator.

The Illuminator sounds fatter to me, while the Titan has better note separation. They're quite similar. I'd personally choose the Titan, but that's just me.

Re: dimarzio titan vs illuminator bridge

I have a guitar like a Les Paul but thinner and 25.5" scale. It's my warmest and sweetest sounding guitar; something Burstbuckers would sound lovely in.

In this guitar, Illuminator has a balanced EQ w/ slightly less highs. Smooth highs but the mids can crunch or wail. Hearty girth in low mids. Easier pinch harmonics than expected. Overall, doesn't have that half-cocked wah or vocal tone (maybe only a little) but definitely sound like a Dimarzio: modern and a bit 70s.

The bass is kinda loose and this guitar is in E Standard. If I were to guess from memory, slightly more loose than a JB. I've had Evolutions before in this guitar w/ no such problem. So if your guitar is relatively bright and tight, Illuminator may be good. If not, I'd definitely try the Titans first.

Hope this helps.

I loved the basic sound, the brightness and high mid crunch. It was just too much.

I had an EVO in a dark LP copy, and it rocked there. Guess a Strat is not a good match.

I heard a couple people say the Titan was like a lower output D act with more bass. Any thoughts?
