DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

I know this is a SD forum, but does anyone have experience with the DiMarzio virtual PAF's? Which SD would you compare to them?

Re: DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

I have experience only with the VHPAF. This pup has a more "cutting" or "edgy" (in a good way) PAF vibe than most PAF-clones. Nice low mids with growl that help to cut through the mix and strong but chimey highs. The cleans are just from another planet(IMO).....outstanding....almost acoustic.

Re: DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

i have the dimarzio v-paf bridge in an Epi LP, i dont think any duncan sounds close to it.

Re: DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

Do you like it?

its a pretty nice sounding pup if u dont need anything with high output.
i put it in my LP coz that LP mainly does classic rock and some blues, nothing heavier because i dont think it would sound good with the v-paf.

dimarzio's description of the V-PAF bridge pretty much nails it. especially the one that say 'low note clarity and high note warmth'.

Re: DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

I have a V PAF neck model in the neck position of one of my Hamer Studios.

I'll second Metalblaze's comments that the clean tone has an almost acoustic quality. Very defined, very clear, kinda hi-fi. And it's sweet and warm like you'd expect a PAF pickup to be.

I don't think there's a Duncan model that directly compares. The 59 and Alnico 2 Pro are also PAF style pickups, but they're built in the conventional way whereas Dimarzio's Virtual PAF's use their "Airbucker" construction. It's really apples and oranges.

VH PAF is a sweet pup. Great for strat bridge or bright guitars with 250k pots. If you look at the eq curve on Dimarzio's site, it's all bass & mids, so if you have ice pick problems, slap this puppy in.

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning toward the V Paf, sd '59's or PG's. Just can't decide. All mahogany LP with ebony fretboard

Re: DiMarzio Virtual PAF's?

I've got a VPAF Neck that has lived in my Ibanez AX320 and S370 (both mahogany) for a couple of years now. It has a very crisp, balanced sound with a lot of clarity and chime. Awesone for cleans and decent for dirty sounds. Somehow they seem to have incorporated the best qualities of Alnico5 and Alnico 2 in one pickup. Although they don't sound alike it makes me think of a humbucker version of the 5/2 Nashville Studio. I think it's the best "vintage output" pickup Dimarzio makes and I generally don't care for thir stuff. I haven't used the Bridge or Hot versions of this pickup so I can't comment on those.
