Sorry to do this again but the last time i did a thread on the Dime i really dident get much responce. OK, iv got a JB, DD, Custom, Deamon, 59, and a Dime, but never put it in anything. I know to each his own when it comes to tone, but damn, it cant be that hard. So im thinking about trying a C5 for a new tone. 80s & 90s METAL are what im after, the ones i allready own do it very well but im still looking for that perfect tone to get the job done. My amp is a Crate GT1200 1/2 stack, no effects, and yes i like SS so dont rag my rig, i love it. Too all thanks for any suggestions. :smack:

Re: DIME vs C5

I'm not ragging on your rig, but in all seriousness I think a change there would get you closer than yet another pickup since you've already gone through all those others. Dime uses SS and it works for him, maybe that's the ticket for you.

Re: DIME vs C5

Try a Peavey 5150 :-) or some kind of modern Hi gain tube amp

There was a post from a fellow who did a comparsion with the C5, JB & CC and they all sound surprisingly similar with the sort of gain your going to use for metal.

The pups eq/tone can be generally altered. If you find your pushing more mids on the amp, then grab a boosted mid pup, etc, etc.

Maybe try a Duncan distortion, I have one in one of my guitars, they sound great. I also currently have a JB in an Ibanez and it's tone is great as well. I've also got a Screamin' Demon HB, C5, CC and a Dimarzio PAF PRO, FRED, HS-3 that I swap in and out from time to time.

I guess that most of the high output pups from Duncan that i've tried have a very usuable sound and are really just a vehicle for the amp, especially under hi-gain.

All the best,

Chris

Re: DIME vs C5

The Fred doesn't really do the purley metal thing as well as the other high output pups. If your not happy with the pups you've tried through your rig, I doubt the Fred will do much for you.

Re: DIME vs C5

The Dime is a suprisingly versitile pup. It can do most kinds of metal or rock well, and sounds good under moderate, high, or even clean/no gain. Give it a whirl.

Re: DIME vs C5

i have an older model of that rig and i used the jb. many many comments on the "UNBELIEVABLE" tone coming out of my rig. it was as follows:

Ibanez GRX40 - JB in bridge
Crate GFX1200H Head
Crate GX412 Slant Cab
Ibanez and Danelectro Effects
