Dimebucker SH-13 in Gibson Les Paul?

Hi.

A few years ago i replaced the pickups of my gibson lp std with the SD JB/Jazz pickups. They sound great! However, the JB sound is a bit to 'light' for me. I'm looking for a fatter sound with more lows, but not to muddy. I'd like to get that ultimate growling sound. My amp is a triple recto.

I was thinking about replacing the JB with a SH-13 Dimebucker. Is that a good idea in a lp std? What will it do to my sound? Or should i go for another pickup?

how about an sh-5 Custom, that should fatten up your sound.
the dimebucker may be a bit too much, i think.

i think the dime would sound good in a les paul but im not sure its the fat sound youre looking for. im assuming that youre looking for a higher output type pup, the distortion is kinda like a jb on steroids

It would be nice if someone could describe the differences in sound between the duncan custom and the dimebucker. I've been listening to the soundclips on the sd site, but there are no clips of the sh-13.

I'll have to agree with Zerberus, the duncan custom is probably what you're looking for.

I have the Dime in a basswood and maple guitar and I've installed it into a couple of PRS guitars with excellent results. I have no doubt that it will work in a LP. The Dime isn't as thick sounding as the Custom but it does seem to have a bit more output. The bottom end is spongier that what you'd expect from a ceramic magnet pickup but it still has alot of punch.

Through my Mesa gear the Dime is brutal.

I haven't tried the Custom but from the descriptions I hear it is like a JB but with the EQ shifted to the left. Keep in mind it has a ceramic magnet so the clean may not be the best. Not sure!

I have a Rio BBQ in a few guitars that replaced JB and it has more cajones and a fatter bass than the JB. Maybe try one of those? Thicker than the JB with more growl for sure. It's a pretty mean sounding pickup.

Another option is the Dimarzio Air Zone.

Nitro, I agree with Robert S. I just put a Dimebucker in a basswood guitar and I'm REALLY liking it! Searing highs, cleans up surprisingly well. You know the part in Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love where you roll the volume back when he sings 'I've been to the edge......' and you play arpeggiated chords, boy it is clear and clean. Even with heavy distortion it is not muddy. I was pleasantly pleased with the Dimebucker

IMPO, you cant beat the DD/59 combo in a LP.
