Dimebucker vs. El Diablo?

How different are these p/ups,really? Is it enough to say,"Well, the 'Dime' is really just a souped-up version of an xl500; & a 'Diablo' a souped-up,blade version of a Screamin' Demon?" BONUS IDIOT QUESTION=]: Dime said he used to flip his XL over,so that the blades were upside-down,reversed,whatever--did he do this w/ the Dimebucker or was the Dimebucker IN FACT based on an 'upside-down' XL?

There was a Dean ad that ran in Guitar World where he had the Dimebucker flipped round but apart from that i've not seen him do that in any other pic.

I thought... "Man this is silly..." but out of curiosity checked on YT 4 live videos and found this:

at 1:58 apparently he does have the Dimebucker flipped... why ? hell knows ;) I mean... People say he was a fun guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd done that just for fun...

Flipping the L500's and the dimebucker don't make any difference, it was all in his head. But when the dimebucker came out Dime flipped it as well so supposedly SD started printing it upside down so when installed normally it's actually backwards from the original.

How different? VERY different. Different wind, different magnets, different blade size; most importantly they sound very different.

I also wouldn't call the El Diablo a "souped up Screamin' Demon" either. Again, very different in the way they are built and sound.

Don't say that man cause you'll have collectors going mental & used originals prices through the roof. :)

Re: Dimebucker vs. El Diablo?

thats right, my latest acquisition of a vintage 80s arched wide railed l500xl would definitely explain why Dime said he flipped his pickups claiming there was a "hot" pole on one side. Well, the time has come to say that there actually was a l500xl that does indeed have a hot pole. I have no idea if the windings are different but the rails themself tell the truth. I have yet to install this pickup in a guitar yet but will do so on my first day off and report back to this thread if these rails make a difference in sound. Seems how the wide arched rhythm and lead pickups form the 80s had one higher than the other so they could be placed on opposite ends from each other would like i said, explain why Dime flipped the bridge pup so the higher rail was farther from the bridge. Proof is in the pudding. here ya go.

Re: Dimebucker vs. El Diablo?

El Diablo is nothing like the Dime and absolutely nothing like a demon. It's most similar to the distortion parallel axis.

The collectors should know better. :wall: It's pretty common knowledge over at the Dean forum, a lot of the other forums don't seem to have caught on yet.

Re: Dimebucker vs. El Diablo?

The Diablo has way more give, much better mids, and better cleans than the dime.....my friend has a dime in one of his king v's and a diablo in the other and the diablo kind of craps all over the dime to my ears.....
