Dimebucker with less high end?

The dimebucker is a cool pickup but has too much high end. Has anyone ever modified a dimebucker to have the high end rolled off a tad? Do any CS versions of the dimebucker exist?

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

asking the CS to make you a custom dime sounds like a doable thing but I have no idea how the license deal works between SD and Dimebag's estate. That being said: you can't mod the DB yourself because it's epoxy'd shut. I'd suggest you try a 250k instead of a 500. Made the pickup so much more usable to my ears. Otherwise: Wilde Pickups L500XL. Just a touch less output but a bit warmer for sure.

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

As orpheo said, taking out high-end is just rolling back the tone control. But the present cap may take out too much. Try playing with some smaller cap values. Like .001 uf, .002 uf, or maybe even .01 uf, until you find your sweet spot.

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

I have the bill lawrence version and I swapped from a 500k volume to a 250k. Made it sound great!

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

I used to have a Dimebucker in my PRS SE with a 250K volume pot. Still too bright, lol.

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

my se is fairly bright so im not all that surprised

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

i use a .022uF for mine with 500k vol and tone pots, but i don't run tone at 10 for everything.

custom dimebucker is a thing, iirc the custom shop makes one with a custom made A2 mag, any customization that can be done to it would have to do with the wind as customizing the magnet is really hard as the dimebucker uses a wider ceramic.

honest advice, go full lawrence, let the pickup be but mess with the wiring ride the tone pot and find the perfect cap value for you

Re: Dimebucker with less high end?

Or perhaps a CS El Diablo. I love mine. Very smooth. And they already make it.

Mmmmmm...the El Diablo! All the crunch and punch of the L500XL with more meat where you want it. One of my SD faves!

Artie, have you wired yours for coil splitting yet?

The L90XL (aka: L90 "8.0H" from Wilde Pickups) is still high output with nice bite and crazy harmonics like the L500XL, but it's a little "sweeter" overall. Definitely not as brash as the L500XL can be in some guitars. Highly underrated
