Another possibility would be building with a custom body from Warmoth - they chamber some of the Fender styles...

I have a Warmoth and love their stuff. I have a Custom T and while they do a chambered version of that, that isn't what I'm looking for. No matter how you a slice it a Warmoth like that would easily run a grand. I'm looking for something used, long-scale and out of the box/off the rack, for considerably lower cost.
