Direct Mount Pick Ups Won't Screw In

I'm at a bit of a loss. When trying to screw in a replacement direct mount pick up, it just won't catch in the body. Sometimes one side will, but not the other. I don't think the holes are stripped as I tried screwing the screws in without the pup and they are okay.

It is basically a direct mount with the little foam pieces on the edges so that you can adjust the height. Are there any easy tricks that don't involve drilling our routing that I can try? Thanks.

Are the pole pieces hitting the body?

Hi! This is a great question! I don't believe that they are since they are about the same length as the old pick up. But I will check.

I tried it with the old pick up and I am having the same issue. One side might screw in, but the other won't. Or they both won't. The screws go in the holes and thread without the pick ups, but not with them.

Are these the screws that came out of the original pickups or ones that came with the new pickup

Is the pickup pivoting on the wire underneath, making it unbalanced? That has happened to me before.

Hey guys. They are the screws that came with the original pick ups. I think now that it is the screw pole pieces. Even though they are only about 2/64 longer than the stock DiMarzio that came with it (DiMarzio's poles are 7/64, the Bareknuckle is 9/64), I think that is enough to cause it not to go deep enough into the cavity and for the screw to catch. Oh, on top of that I think the holes stripped out a bit but I put a toothpick piece in each and the DiMarzio was able to screw in.

Dealing with shallow cavity direct mount and replacing pick ups has been a lot more frustrating than I thought....
