Keep us postsed on your progress amigo!

Re: DIY Powder coating - anybody tried it?

Funny, you guts aren't the first to say that. I actually have an old GCB95 that I want to mod to hell and back, and I think I might just sand that down and leave it bare. I really like the look, but I also really want to paint this wah.

I'll be sure to keep you guys posted - I'll probably just start a new thread that documents the whole thing.

If you just want one pedal just buy a new shell. It'll be a pro job, won't cost too much and will be quicker and easier!!

In fact if you're interested I might be willing to trade you a brand new Wah shell for an old one! Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Man, I dig that color...looks very nice indeed.!
You are all done, but.....a few months back I modded a Boss BD-2 for a local player, and he wanted to get rid of the blue.
I used some of the Liquid Stainless Steel.....there are a few different Names/Brands.....it sort of has the "Hammered Look" to it when it dries. It works better on a bigger/wider surface, but it did come out fairly well on the smallish pedal also.
Again.....I like your Wah. Nice Job...!!

Oh next project
Get some pvc cleaner
The tinted purple kind
Once you have it down to bare.metal
Wipe it with the pvc cleaner

The acetone will remove oils and prep.for paint
The purple stain will leave s tint of.purple

Spray clear

I've already started my next project, I'm refinishing and modding my old Peavey Reactor (tele copy). I'll put up a thread later on that.

Re: DIY Powder coating - anybody tried it?

I watched a video on a guy who had a "DIY" powder coating setup - it seems like you can't do it without investing quite a bit of scratch in tools, notably a powder coating gun and the powder.

This x 100

Fwiw they make wheel paint that you can bake on for a pretty durable finish - just get a $5 heat lamp from Lowe's and let it bake for a couple of days after spraying it and you'll have something that's held up on my wheels for 3-4 years at 12,000 miles a year, been through a tire change too. Now it's not perfect but if it can handle that decently well then maybe it's worth looking into for a less demanding application like a pedal. Not saying they don't get kicked around but you don't exactly throw asphalt at then at 80 miles an hour regularly either.

The biggest thing about that is prep... For my wheels I sanded each one down to probably 300 or so grit so the paint would adhere and cleaned the bejesus out of the garage when I sprayed them. Even before the spray I wiped them down and generally cleaned them as thoroughly and completely as I could. Then you spray a coat and wait 15 minutes and spray another and repeat as necessary. After an hour it's hard enough to rest so what I did was put it under the lamp once it had air dried for an hour. 24 hours cure time and you have a pretty decent finish all said and done.

Would I go to that much trouble for a pedal? No lol. Just have your guy powder coat it, you'll be glad you did.

I used a toaster oven when working with the bake-on paints. There's some decent colors for engine enamels out there. Obviously can't do that with a guitar body, but a pedal housing would be just fine. :D
