DMZ Air Norton S or Lil 59

I have a pair of DMZ Area 61's in my G&L. I'm currently using a VV Blues in the bridge but would like a stouter sound for rock covers. One friend recommended a lil 59, the other a Air Norton S, or possibly a Pro Track. Anyone here have any opinions on these?...and sorry for asking a DMZ question on this side of the fence, but the DMZ forum blows :lmao:

I haven't used the lil '59, but I can tell you the AN S is not a very good pup. Just very bland in every way. The Pro Track, however, is awesome. Does just what it says; gives you a very convincing PAF sound. I dig it. I imagine the lil '59 would do just the same.

Have you considered the Chopper? Great pickup. Definitely my favorite DMZ single rails.

I've had AN-S in bridge position of a strat... hated it! It was just muddy sounding, and made my bridge position sound like a neck position of a gibson guitar. I had a chopper on the neck, and that sounded more open compared to AN-S on the bridge. I think Chopper on the bridge would be better, I had Chopper on the bridge, and it was pretty good, but must be wired to 250k tone pot. Pro Track would be good too I think. just little bit warmer than Chopper.

Ohhh this is going in your *bridge*. Look at the Fast Track II. It will cover just about any rock need.

I totally disagree about the Air Norton S, but +1 on the Chopper. The Chopper is so great. I really love that pickup.

Did you have AN-S on the bridge? I think it was designed to be used as neck pickup, and works better in that position, with something like Tone Zone in the bridge.

Thanks for the replies. I'm basically looking for a fat bridge pickup, and not necessarily a *hot* sound. I'm in an 80's cover band, Duran Duran and The Cars type 80's stuff.

The Fast Track looks interesting, but I was wondering if the Pro Track might balance better with the Area 61's I have in N & M?

Thanks,E

Pro Track, Chopper, and even the Fast Track 1 would balance better with the Areas, Dimarzio website shows comparable output in mv for each pickups. I'd probably stick with Pro Track or Chopper.

andy taylor wont be hard, but elliot eastons tones are ... so... damn... worthy. on the first Cars album he claims he mainly used his Les, damn if i know what pickup he used, and if even THAT would help you get those SLABS of tone! going out on limb, have you looked into a FRED? forgot satch, theyre very PAFish... (no diss, i luv c-foot gtr tone)

The thing is..I have a PRS CE22 sitting on a stand right behind me all night, but we move so quickly from song to song that I usually end up playing the G&L exclusively. Ideally I'd route the cavity and put a PG in there, and I might do that eventually. But I think I'll take advantage of DMZ's return policy and give the Chopper a try...then again I might go with the PT...decisions...

MY DMZ Air Norton S arrived this morning. I'll write a review once I have a chance to put it through its paces.

Re: DMZ Air Norton S or Lil 59

If it sounds like an Air Norton it can't be that bad, I like the AN quite a bit. Make sure you don't mount it too high, that might be these other goobers' problem.
