do different magnet types alter note clarity ?

i somehow have a feeling that different magnet types have an influence on how distinct do different notes sound in a chord, especially when played with some gain, is that true ?

Re: do different magnet types alter note clarity ?

definitely. have you tried magnet swapping yet? the differences are obvious once you try different magnets. for instance, a5 has lots of articulation and clarity, a2 has smooth highs and looser lows, a4 is somewhat flat eq'd, etc.

Re: do different magnet types alter note clarity ?

i have a CC which does sound really good i can't deny, but for what i play (mostly modern metal) it's a little weak, and when i play 3 notes chords (sometimes even 2) it all turns into one big mushy note soup. it's just not tight enough for me, i'm thinking of replacing the magnet with either an A5 or ceramic bar.
thank you (:

you might want to look into a C8 then(with an alnico 8 bar). do a search for a8, there's a ton of info on the boards about it.

A8 magnets are fantastic for note clarity.

+99999999999 on the A8 super good note clarity, have one in a Demon... wicked pickup, the C8 is my next test

An A8 in your CC would take care of the "weakness" and "tightness" problem but, no offense intended, from your description what I think you need is a review of your rig's settings...
