do i dislike alnicos?

i put an eminence 122 alnico speaker in my classic 30, liked it for a while as a definite improvement over the stock speaker, and then ultimately decided it wasn't what i wanted -- a bit thin -- i replaced it with a g12h30 and found what i was looking for - thick warm crunchy goodness. does this mean i don't like alnico speakers? do they tend to sound thinner than ceramics?

I woundn't say they sound thin but they do have less bass and more mids as a general rule...a G12H30 is a pretyt thick speaker so it's hard not to sound thin compared to one of them...

interesting point -- i'm getting a classic 20 and i expect i will need a speaker for it -- 10", 16 ohms, 15 watts. i'm thinking weber silver 10 ceramic or celestion v10 -

alnicos just dont have as deep a bottom and i dont think they are for every thing but for some amps they are the cats pajamas. tweed circuts sound especially great with alnico to my ears. the jensen p10q type is a great sounding 10" if you want alnico.

+1 for the Jensen P10Q....I've got them mixed with Celestion ceramics (G10L-30) in 2 Marshall 4x10s. VERY NICE!!

I actually like the warmth of alnicos....mixed with a punchy ceramic, it's a beautiful tone :D

That said, I think the 12H30 is my favorite speaker...of the ones I've tried :beerchug:
