Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

Re: Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

Please see above for the explanation, like I said, this may have just been the last straw.

Thank you for all that helped. I think I am going to bite the bullet and send this off for repair due to it's age, although that will bring my total to more than I wanted it to...I guess that's what I get. 1 For the price of two!

I am assuming by sending it back for repair only the one coil will be re-wound?

Since it was a JBJ, be sure to send it to MJ and only MJ. You bought a JBJ for a reason.

It could be something painfully simple at the connections and the coil is still good.

However, for the cost of all that...have you thought about getting with the seller and getting your money back? Then keep on the hunt for another? And no, none of mine are for sale. lol!

Re: Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

^ Funny you say that, I was going to PM you hahaha.

Yes I am certainly going to request it is MJ for that very reason. As far as the 'return policy'...for the price I got it at, and to ship it back etc would be too much of a pain, not to mention the seller hasn't responded to me yet. Hoping he'll be a bro and give me a partial refund but that's probably not going to happen. There are none available either that I can see right now so I think I'll leave it in the hands on the SD Custom Shop.

I also want to give a shout out to Mincer for helping me to fill out my repair form properly, and get a few questions answered.

As for everybody else, I get it, I'm a terrible person for posting while frustrated, please continue to remind me.

For those that are wondering: I have a DDJ in my Charvel Model 3 that I love, and this JBJ is going to be going into my model 4. Something about having a period correct pickup in these guitars either just gives it some mojo...or is all just in my head.

if it was someone on SDUGF, there's the bad trader thread. it can apply to SDUGF members even if it wasn't a sale from the Trading Post.

whatever. it's normal for someone to get cranky when they get ripped off. at least there were more people interested in trying to help resolve the situation than be all mr-preachy-mcpointy-finger..

Re: Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

I got it on Ebay, I will wait to see with what they reply with before I post there, but I will if need be. Thing is, I opened it up and am sending it for repair, so technically he doesn't owe me anything but we'll see.

And yes, your second point is very true. Thanks again to everyone. Will hopefully report when it's back and in the model 4

Re: Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

I agree, I'd only send it back to Duncan for a rewind; even if a JBJ isn't an expensive pickup yet, not only does it preserve the integral "MJ" but I don't know how many re-winders understand how JB coils are wound even if the number of winds/gauge/insulation types are known. Then again, maybe I'm wrong and it's simple, but the scatter etc. can make all the diff. Good luck with whatever you do.

I am getting a price for you, so hold tight.

Re: Do I have another Duncan Dud? Help Needed.

Thank you!

Also just an FYI to those following. The buyer got back to me and handled the situation real well. He admitted he only tested it for output (i.e. made sure it outputted SOMEthing) and agreed to send me a partial refund, so looks like no bad trader alert here!
