Do little big muffs add hum?

or is mine busted?

I have EXH little big muff on my pedal board, and when I engage the switch it adds/amplifies the 60cycle hum. me pedal board goes wah, tuner, OD9 then muff, all powered of the same adaptor via a daisy chain. None of the other pedals add anything close this amount of hum. So why does little big muff do it?

is this a common thing for fuzz pedals to do?

thanks

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

Try the Little Big Muff with batteries. If the hum goes away, you have a ground loop caused by your daisy-chain

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

Pardon my ignorance, but why does ground loop only affect the muff, and not the tubescreamer or any of the other pedals?

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

I compared the hum given off from when it was powered by daisy chain and then just by battery. Its still there, tried it with single coils and humbuckers as well. It still hums. Any other ideas? It gives off more hum than when I add every other pedal i own into the chain. (DS1, DD3, Small clone, OD9 tuner and wah) is annoying. What can I do to fix it?

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

Does the metal case, when touched, while engaged, calm the hum?
Have you tried it in another place in the room?

Could be faulty...maybe a side by side compare at the store...

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

It's the highest gain pedal in your chain, so it will amplify the hum picked up by everything else, including your guitar, and especially your 9V adapter even if it is just plugged into everything else.

Plug into just the Muff running on a battery, nothing else in the pedal chain, that'll probably clean it up. If it does, you need a better adapter, what kind are you using now?

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

Couldnt tell you the name of the adaptor, it came with a zoom pedal I bought as a kid. Your right though it is highest gain pedal, so it is most likely to cause the hum eh?

Could it possibly be radio interference? I was using just the OD9 and it went through bouts of adding hum as well, though not as much as Little Muff.

I did touch the case, made no difference.

Maybe I'm just going to have to learn to live with it.

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

Did you try the Muff by itself on battery power? Just guitar -> Muff -> amp, I'm betting AC hum goes away, you'll still have some hiss, it's a distortion/fuzz pedal.

Cheap wall wart adapters don't have enough filtering to get rid of the AC ripple from the diode bridge. Even the Boss wall warts are a little noisy if you are using high gain. A good clean 9V power supply will most likely make your problems go away.

Re: Do little big muffs add hum?

yeah tried muff by itself on battery, no change. Think it might be radio interference, cause its not always so bad.

Thanks for your help guys
