Do teles sustain better than strats?

In your experience, have you found that teles sustain better than strats? My strat dies about a second after it is plucked (or maybe I just have a lemon strat haha)?

Re: Do teles sustain better than strats?

is it a hardtail or a trem on your strat? I find my trem strats sustain way longer than my hardtail. Could be something as simple as a set up issue. I dont have a real 'tele' right now so i cant compare im afraid.

Re: Do teles sustain better than strats?

IMHO, Teles do sustain longer as long as you don't install a middle pickup. Then you start suffering from "Stratitis"...

Re: Do teles sustain better than strats?

Way too many factors to say one way or the other. I've play Strats and Teles that sustain for days and others that die off like a flaming paper airplane.

The Stratitus thing isn't because of the middle pickup, it's because all 3 pickups have direct magnetic field contact to the strings due to the pickup poles being the magnets. With humbuckers, the magnetic field has indirect contact so the pull is much less. I've experience Stratitus (or Teleitus?) on the last Tele I had just by having the neck pickup adjusted too high. The neck pickup in Strats will have the greatest influence on Stratitus as well because that is where the strings move the most.

Re: Do teles sustain better than strats?

Depends on the guitar. My strat sustains for days compared to my tele, oposite goes for one of my friends. His tele sustains, his strat crashes.

Re: Do teles sustain better than strats?

ya it does depend on the guitar... i have both MIM strats and teles that sing crazy... one of my MIM strats the body and headstock vibrates maddly when i play it, lots of of sustian... My MIM tele is the same... the neck vibrates like crazy when i play it, lots of sustian and a nice warm tone...

i have a 1994 MIM strat that is junk.... like a stone... then i have a few other MIM strat's and they are great... depends from guitar to guitar
