Do You Guys Know Anything about the Roland GR-1?

Guitar Synth? I've acquired one by pure circumstance, and I'm wondering about it? I have the floor pedal part and the pickup. The whole works, box, papers and all. I'm torn between selling it and hooking it up to one of my guitars. I hate paperwork and work. The instructions look complicated. Before I find out for myself, I'd love some feedback. Thanks guys.

Re: Do You Guys Know Anything about the Roland GR-1?

In this day of guitar synths it is very outdated and it is hard to program compared to newer units...

If you're not much on books you'll need to change that mind set or dich the unit...you need the book!

There are newer Roland units (GR-33 for example) that will do everything the GR-1 will do, also do far more and also do it far easier...

The GR-1 was a big advancement in it's day, today it's rather dated but if you are into guitar synths it's still a cool sounding unit...

Guitar synths are cool! I rarely use mine these days, opting for analog synths or VST's, but there are a few bass pedal patches as well as the sitar patches which are great. I have a GR30/GT88 combo.

The tracking of the GR-1 is okay. It is the lack of programming of its sounds that put me off ever wanting to own one.

I still rate the old GM-70 into an MKS synth module over most of Roland's more recent attempts. The VG-99 is the exception to my general rule.
