Do you think this wood would make a good top for a guitar build?

It could be a few different species of wood, but its hard to identify which. I think its QLD maple.

Re: Do you think....

Cant be worse than some of the fast growth asian we will call it mahogany because it doesnt make good paper crap that gets passed off in guitars lately.

Re: Do you think....

Hi,
Clearly a novice but that first picture sure looks like mahogany, although the grain seems like ash, but ash is lighter in color, so is maple.
I'm sure we'll find out in the next post or two. I'll make a gentlemen's bet (that means no money, just bragging rights) that is not maple.

Re: Do you think....

Queensland maple is what he's talking about, which can have that color and grain

Re: Do you think....

Is it hard? Does it machine well? does it glue well? does it have a nice tap-tone?

If the answer to all 4 questions is yes, then it'll probably make a decent instrument wood. Just try to mate it with something that complements the tap tone.

Re: Do you think....

I say go for it, I think it looks cool. But if YOU like it, there doesn't need to be any other reason to use it.
