Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Are your cats/dogs or birds music lovers? 3 out of 5 of my cats regularly sit in on my practice sessions. One of those not so fond of it will at times stretch out on top of my amp while I play. They all prefer clean to gain, bass and mids to treble, though Alicia, pictured below at my feet, was perfectly happy with me practicing this afternoon with my HT-40's reverb maxed. Gain 3, Gain volume 3, Master volume 4 and guitar at 3. One of my wife's cats comes in too and he's not all that fond of me. He rarely comes upstairs but comes in 3-4 times per week while I practice. He usually lays down behind one of the cabs - or behind the combo, but has parked his carcass right up against the grill cloth on occasion. Pretty cool :) -Rod-

HELL no. My three female cats are always very close to me when I am at home...but they take off immediately when they see me go for a guitar.

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

My cats will hang out in the same room with me when I play. One of them actually tries to play the guitar. She'll try and strum the strings, and also will pluck the strings individually with her teeth. It's pretty funny.

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

My landlady's cat hates all kinds of noises, from hairdryers to the washing machine, so it's no surprise she doesn't appreciate my guitar playing. But she hates me singing most of all. :eek5:

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

My cat has yet to learn the appreciation of the fine art of extreme metal blaring through a 4x12. Come to think of it neither do my wife and kids. Or my neighbors

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Well it does depend on what I'm doing. They don't like crunch much but I don't use a lot. My amps are metal-virgins unless you count the occasional Alice Cooper song. Solos are too loud and they boogie. They like rhythm with some gain but not too much and as long as I don't pump the volume suddenly, they can deal with some loudness. They are honest in their feedback. This crowd will not sit through a shoddy performance lol -Rod-

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Had one who used to sleep in my combo amps...he did not care if I played, just as long it was not loud....

The two I have now, do not mind music nor guitars...
One likes Mozart....she sleeps close to the sound when I hear classical music...funny!

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

We have seven cats and a dog. I usually close the door to the music room before I play. If I don't my dog will come in and lay on floor beside me, when I get above the 12th fret she'll sit up and start nudgeing my arm. I don't think she likes the high frequencies.

I love the pic!

My dogs do the same thing. I try to keep the door closed to preserve their ears. But if I accidentally leave it open, I'll have two dogs and a bunny hanging out in the room with me.

And I use a healthy dose of gain.

Thanks! Hit the right note and she may decide to sing along :)

A bunny too? lol. I don't know what to make of that one. -Rod-

Actually, we have two bunnies: a mini-rex and a lop. They are house pets and are quite well adjusted to my noisy ways lol!

Very cool. I don't think my cats would appreciate me getting something that could outrun them lol -Rod-

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

my hound sings along with me and the cats do something under the table, maybe they are dancing, but just shy about it. . .I do think they all like the fuzz pedals best. .

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Yea both of my dogs seem to enjoy my playing. They usually settle right down on their beds, curl up, and take a nap, provided the volume is not excessive. My older one does not like it loud and she let's me know right away, but she is fair about it.

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Yeah my dogs are cool with it.

Years ago I used to have this toad that lived in the backyard. He would come out every time I came out and played my acoustic. We called him the Colonel. He was cool as ****.

Re: Do Your Pets Appreciate your Music?

Yeah, I play everything pretty loud and my dogs don't even react. I guess they're cool with it.
