Does a les paul standard have lots of its own mids/highs?

Thinking about a replacement pickup for my les pauls bridge still, and i like the sound of the C5 but being a die hard JB user (and i love the JB, but want something a little different in my les paul) i dont mind a few mids...but going with the CC which is supposed to have stacks of mids would worry me in that its lows are a bit lacking according to some people.

So with the C5 the mids are supposed to be a little scooped arent they? So if i put one in my les paul, do you think ill notice it too much and it wont cut through well enough (and i want it to be able to cut through but still be thick and rich...like chocolate topping!) or will the maple top on the les paul add to the mids anyway and "not cutting" wont be a problem?

The fact that you have an ENGL and Komet tell me no. Think of the C-5 as a vintage Alnico 5 pickup with tight lows and enough output to push your amp nicely.
Honestly, I like a lot of bridge Duncans for LP's, but would lean toward C-5's, Customs, CC's and JB's. Sometimes, you just have to experiment to know for sure what is 'your' sound.

The only thing here I'd disagree with is the word "sometimes" in the last sentence. I'd say "always"! LOL!

I hear most Les Paul Standards as having deeper, fuller mids than most other solid body guitars, BTW...especially compared to most double cutaway guitars. Whenever I compared my double cutaway Hamers to my Les Paul I always heard that diff.

I think it's the thicker body and single cutaway that give the Les Paul Standard the thicker tone.

I dig the way my C5 sounds in my Epi LP. I know its not a Gibson, but the C5 has great low end, not too much and never muddy, with a bright but not peircing high end. Cuts throught the mix very nicely. If it makes my Epi sound good, I can only imagine that it would sound better in your gibby...

Go for it!!

If you want a little more thickness from the pickup, give the Distortion a thought. Might just be the ticket.

My Lester cuts through very well with the PG at the bridge. I imagine the C5 would only push harder and really cut through at the bridge of a LP. I tried the C5 in a Carvin though, and got what you are afraid of: lots of highs and lows with no mids to poke through the mix with. It is not one of my favorite sounds.
