Re: Does anybody play 7-strings anymore?

It's obvious if you go to a guitar store that the 7-string "fad" has gone away. There is no more selection on hand, unless you are looking for used. I bought my 7-string because I wanted tuning versitility and ease without having to completely change my guitar around, tuning wise. But I'm just wondering, do any of the people who bought 7-strings still own them, and if so, why?
Yep, I for one am still here. I play 7-string guitars.
The thing is, people in general just don't buy them. I call that their loss, but it does mean that choice is more limited. This unfortunately extends to pickups; I like active pickups, but without going to a custom shop (e.g. SD) the only active 7-string pickups around are EMG 707s, which aren't standard size.
A common misperception is that seven-string guitars can't be versatile - there's all the regular 6 strings there, plus an extra one??
Another one is baritone guitars - I'm starting on a project to build one at the moment.
One of my favourite arguments
against baritone guitars is people claiming that you lose out on 'range' because you 'don't have the high E string'. This is of course cr@p - compare a 24 fret baritone guitar tuned (say) BEADGB (low to high) with a standard six string tuned EADGBE (low to high) - the distance from the lowest note to the highest note is exactly the same in both cases. Sure, you lose 5 notes from the top end with a baritone, but you gain 5 notes on the bottom end.
But with a seven string, you get both.
Anyway, there will always be Warmoth if 7-string guitars die out.
