I thought he had at least one 2204 Marshall. It sounds like it on some of their tunes.

That's what I heard/read...JCM 800.

fogetaboutit! He is another one of those guys like ZZ top who collects gear like their are gumballs. He has like 33 touring guitars and switches amps for every tour and album. When I've seen em, they had bogners, fenders, an orange, and a marshal lined up. it was sick!

You mean Rich Robinson? or Marc Ford? Both are gear hounds. Rich is currently looking for a Broadcaster to add to his collection from what I understand. I actually got to check out one of his Zemaitis guitars recently. man what an asskicker it was.

Did any of you happen to notice Rich's amp tech selling off a lot of Black Crowes gear on Ebay recently. He sold his Matchless 8-12 cabs and some Bogner cabs.

Who is the cat that played with "Cry of Love" ? I heard that he has been playing with the "Black Crows" also of lately.
New question........ Vibrolux, Vibro King or Tone Master? Which would you prefer?

Re: Does anyone know the lead guitar player of the black crowes' gear?

I remember reading in Guitar Player, that they used Fender amps through Marshall 4x12's for a lot of their sounds.

Vibrolux for a great blues tone. Vibroking for a beautiful, rich clean tone with a bit of breakup. Tone Master? Glassy clean tone with no reverb, and a gain channel that sounds no better than a Hotrod Deville. C-

Is it just me or do they look VERY like Hiwatt amps?

***Edit*** Somebody's probably gonna tell me he designed Hiwatts too, or something like that?

the black crows went thru a few lead men. not sure who was on the first album besides rich, who has killer tone and taste. marc ford was my favorite but im not sure he was on the first.
audley freed was the guy from cry of love and is a killer player. jolly and i met him at a namm show a few years back.

Actually, I know for fact that Brendan O'Brien played a lot of leads on the first disc.

Re: Does anyone know the lead guitar player of the black crowes' gear?

if he's taking about "hard to handle" then jeff cease was the lead player back then...

He's right...although...Jeff H has a pretty good start. I have met Jonny Colt on serval ocations, and he has said more that once that Rics changes guitars like most people change shirts.

For a good start
tele with a bucker in the neck
gold top with p-90's
and a Zematis

several...DOZEN tweed fenders, and a couple of Silver Jubalie marshalls...that will get ya started!!!

I believe that you're thinking of Audley Freed, who is primarily an SG player. I saw him guest during a Gov't. Mule show a few years ago.
