I only use the bridge for the most part as its got a hot rial in there, but at time s use the enck pick up (STOCK) for cleans as it can be nice at time....BUT who used the middle and for what?!!?!??! Its o hard to even get the pick up selector switch to the middle when your playing. Any comments?

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I use the middle pickup in a strat most of the time, followed by the neck. I tend to go for a Robin Trower type of sound when I'm playing a strat, and the middle pickup is his rhythm sound, IMO: not too bright and not too wooly.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

basically i use bridge for surf.......middle for classic rock........and neck for blues...... in between positions for jangly and beautiful cleans or funky rhythms.......

pretty simple and effective

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I really like the middle position of my strat also. Good inbetween warm and crisp tones. The more I play my strat, the less I like positions 2 & 4. I prefer the single coil tones.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

hmmm so the middle position is good for rythms!?!?!? maybe is it beacuse my middle and neck pick ups are stock MIM fender pick ups? maybe i should install some duncans?!!!!

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I use the middle pickup in my Strat for clean stuff, or the bridge/middle.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I never use the middle pickup by itself either. I tend to use the neck, bridge, and the bridge/middle positions the most.

I wish that switch position #3 turned the neck and bridge pup's on together.

I use the middle most of all, probably.

A Schaller Mega Switch will do just that. I have one installed in one of my Strats. Gives:
neck
neck & middle
neck & bridge
middle & bridge
bridge

I NEVER play the middle pickup by itself so I don't miss not having it in the middle position of the switch.

Hmm, that sounds like what I am after. I'll have to get one of those Schaller switches.

Thanks Lew. :)

You can order one from Stew Mac! Lew

Forget the new switch. Just change the mid and neck pickup hot lead connections on the 5 way. If you want to keep single coils hum cancelling, change the physical locations of the mid and neck pickup in the guard and them wire the neck slot to the mid post and the mid slot to the neck post.

Good suggestion! :) But you'll not be able to get the middle and bridge combined...one of my favorite Strat sounds. :smack: Lew

Ok fine, be that way. I install a bridge pickup on/off switch in all my 3 pickup guitars for just this reason. I use mini toggles but a push pull pot will work just as well. A mega switch is another solution.

Or even better: a Blender Pot. Then you get ANY combination including all three on at the same time. Lew

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

you can do that with the bridge on switch too, you just dont have the ability to blend in various amounts of the pup.
i use my middle pup quite a bit. the middle pup on my guitars is almost always the lowest output and the brightest so when ever i go there i get a cleaner tone.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I am totally in agreement with you as I only use the middle with the bridge in the inbetween position to get that out of phase sound. Hot tip to fall in love with your strat all over again save your duckits and buy yourself a fender bassman they are a smokin combination.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

I should clarify my last statement to read if you like classic rock and blues the combination will get the SRV sound.

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

another one who almost never uses the middle alone... IMHO it is only there so I can get the quack ;)
of course, it may be because I've never had a really good pup in the middle...

Re: Does anyone sue the middle pick up in a strat?

Even if the middle pickup was horrible... I wouldn't sue it. I don't think it could pay me enough to cover the legal fees. As far as using it, I often use it alone, just because I have three different pickups in the guitar, and therefore, three different sounds. I have an A2P in the mid, so I use it rather frequently.
