Does it work

To use a rack preamp to build an amp with? Does it make any difference? I was thinking about using the Voodoo Lab preamp to build with the local expert, but don't know how it'll work out and don't want to ask him, as I'll look like a moron and morons = people you can overcharge.

Re: Does it work

if you build a preamp and a power amp into a box it should work fine. if thats the preamp that you want to use try a bunch of power amps to see what works best with it

Re: Does it work

I agree with Jeremy. Use a rack or headshell, but keep the pre and power amp intact. If you try and build a power section, then remove the guts from the preamp, you can create a mess for yourself or an expensive project from a pro.

As far as power amps, buy something good like Mesa or Marshall, but if you have to go cheaper, the older tube Peavey Classic 50/50, 60/60, and 100/100 sound great for the money.

ya i don't see the point of removing rack preamp guts... just use it in a small rack mount case with a power amp... a few cables and you're done
