Does this look like a plywood to you?

So I just got this FGN Odyssey that on FGN's website advertised as '2-3 ply body'. I took a look at the neck pocket and found that it's solid.

I emailed the sales rep and was informed that the basswood consists of 2-3 plies. I am pretty sure it's solid but still my OCD bothers me. So what do you think?

Re: Does this look like a plywood to you?

I'm inclined to think the "plies" are "pieces," and that you should see three joints across the face of the guitar, not a 'sandwich;' a three piece body, as standard practice. That doesn't look like plywood, and I can't make out any lateral layers.

Guess the joins on the body would actually be obscured by the maple cap/veneer.

I thought the same. I guess in Japan they use the term 'ply' to refer to a few slabs of wood combined together sideways, not on top of each other.

The Japanese are known to speak English/Engrish just well enough to be misunderstood in the worst ways :D

No no, dat prywood. We pry from tree. Good guitar. You like. Make you rock star happy type.

Cool Blue guitar.

Looking at your photos I would take it to mean they used 3 pieces/plys, plus the veneer flame top, to make the body much like Hamer used 3 pieces to make this bass.

Re: Does this look like a plywood to you?

That's what I thought. It is made of 3 slabs of wood glued together. Honestly I think it's very gaudy looking, too over the top, I mean, pearloid pickguard on flame maple? I have lost my lust for deluxe visual ever since Tom Anderson fell out of favor in the late 90s.

But I couldn't resist the price, which is on par with MIM Strat, it comes with TB-4, SSL-1 and STK S4, and Gotoh hardware, plus the notorious Fujigen craftsmanship. Here's a link to its specs: http://www.fgnguitars.com/jos_fm_m.html

It doesn't look like plywood to me. That's for sure...etc., etc., etc.

I think 3 ply body here means it's made from three slabs, but horizontally instead of usual way of joining pieces together vertically. It looks like the bottom of neck joint is different piece than the sides of it if you look the picture closely.

Nothing says that each ply is made from one piece of wood though. So it may have been made from numerous pieces, but indeed has three ply body. Do you have any pictures from inside the control cavity?

As long as it plays well and sounds well I wouldn't care if it was made out of dried compressed dog turds.
