Does this seem like good combo?

Based on what people have said they disliked in certain pups both here and in reviews, and on the sound clips I've heard so far I think my ideal set would be a duncan custom in the bridge and dimarzio paf pro in the neck. Does seem like a good, versatile combination? It's for a schecter c1 elite. mahogony body and neck, maple quilt top. I'm going for a warm, transparent tone, without too much harshness or brightness, and the flexibility to play metal as well as jazz. I will be buying the pups later this month if I'm ever able to settle on what I want.

Thanks in advance, everyone here has been very helpful so far.

Can't comment on the DiMarzio, but the Custom is the sh*t. I love that pickup more and more every time I use it.

i've got the PAF Pro in the neck of one of my LP's and i like it when it's wired in parallel as opposed to series (i have switches to go back and forth). warm, clean, with good top end. not too loud, too, so matches better with the DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge (which sounds better in series than in parallel).

Re: Does this seem like good combo?

How do you wire it differently? I was thinking I'd just get it done professionally this time around since I was way sloppy with the solder when I installed my emgs in my other guitar. Also, are you saying it would be a better match with the other dimarzio instead of the duncan custom? That's the thing I'm a bit nervous about- wether the two will sound good together or not.

I actually think the paf pro would match the custom nicely. I dont like the the paf pro as a bridge pickup but in the neck it works good.

Hmm, cool. I guess there's no way to tell until I try em then. Thanks!

yeah, i found it to be way too bright and ice-picky in the bridge spot, but that "brightness" works well in the neck spot for me through my amps.

Re: Does this seem like good combo?

uh-oh. Bright you say? That's exactly what I've been trying to avoid. In fact, that's why I decided not to go with a jb :(

Re: Does this seem like good combo?

The PAF Pro works well through some rigs, but if your style is like mine (guitar into amp, no effects) , it lacks a bit in character. I much preffer the Pearly Gates or the Alnico II Pro in the neck slot.

I would Prefer the 59 in the neck. You can order them with 4-conductor wiring. If, however, the PAF Pro is your flavor, check out the PAF Joe.

The PAF Joe™ is the new neck pickup that DiMarzio® developed for Joe Satriani. Joe wanted a neck position humbucker that combines the best qualities of the DiMarzio® PAF Pro® with those of a late '50s Gibson humbucker. Joe described this tone as being "tubular". Through the use of Virtual Vintage® technology, clear-sounding low frequencies are blended with warm-sounding mids and high frequencies, which makes the PAF Joe™ equally good for chords and single notes. It was first used by Joe throughout the 2003 G3 tour. Available in all standard DiMarzio® colors.

Recommended For: All positions, solid, semi-solid and hollow-body electric guitars.

Tech Talk: What does "tubular" mean? In this case, it means making low notes "speak" more clearly while giving high notes a rounder voicing. This accomplishes two goals: chords have better definition, and single notes at higher fret positions remain warm-sounding rather than getting thinner. The PAF Joe™ has slightly less power than the PAF Pro®. It balances well with bridge pickups like the PAF Pro®, Fred®, Breed™ neck model, Air Norton™ and Norton®.

Re: Does this seem like good combo?

Dimarzio doesn't happen to have 21 day guarantee like duncan do they? I really do need to see how it ends up sounding through my rig. For anyone that wants to help a bit more- I go direct into a peavy bandit, and once in a while put an overdrive or distortion pedal for a bit more power. I also play a lot direct-in to the computer and in all honesty the tone I'll get with that through a Vamp2 or Podxt(I'm getting the latter around the same time as the new pups) is most important to me right now. I just want it to be transparent, warm, full(some might say thick), and not bright or harsh. Icepick to ears= no no. They're going in a mahogany body guitar with a set mahogany neck, but I'm paranoid about the brightness because the duncan designed pickups in it right now literally hurt the ears due to the brightness.
