Does this sound like a fair trade to you?

Hello all!
I've been around here for a little while as a lurker and like the vibe this place has got going on compared to a lot of other forums out there.
I'm a bit of a gearwhore haha, but even with the hours of research I've spent doing I need a little advice regarding a trade I've got lined up.
I reposted a Mike Sherman custom 8 string on a couple of my regular sites and got a bite from a lad with a minty 2006 LP Custom. Spec wise, there's no question that my Sherman is worth more...But then again, Mike really drug his name through **** when he rode off into the sunset and a mint LP Custom will hold it's value for years to come. It's closet kept since being acquired brand new back in 06
Here's said Sherman

Specs:
-27.5" scale, Jumbo frets
-Nordstrand Pickups
-Chambered Mahogany body, flame maple top with natural mask binding
-7 piece neck maple, purple heart, and wenge. Macassar Ebony board
-Hipshot bridge
-Locking Sperzels
What do you guys think, should I pull the trigger?

Re: Does this sound like a fair trade to you?

My reasoning would revolve around the question, do you or do you not need an eight string guitar? The monetary question is secondary.

In my opinion, you would do better to realise the true value of the MS Custom 8 by selling it privately and then hunting for your ideal Les Paul.

Re: Does this sound like a fair trade to you?

I agree. You need to figure out your needs and go from there. An 8-string, 27.5" scale guitar with Nordstrand NDC pickups will sound much different than a 6-string, 24.75" scale guitar with PAFs. Forget value; does this guitar work for you and your current situation? That's the most relevant question.

I'm not currently gigging.
If you could call my guitar habits anything as of late it would be swapping and whoring :p
It is an apples to oranges situation, and to be completely honest I don't need any of the guitars I currently have aside from my Tele and Schecter KM-7.
I've had this up on a few different sites actively trying to sell it off and on for months now, but it's not a seller's market for a brand who's reputation took a **** kicking from the builder's ******* behaviour. Not to mention guys are ****ting themselves regularly for Mayones, caring more to save an additional 1-2K for something with a name on the headstock.

Back to what you said speed, I've been getting back into playing post-hardcore and higher chordal playing so an LP would be right up my alley. Plus I used to have a Heritage H-150 CM and miss the feel of a good heavy chunk of guitar.
Thanks for the feedback gents,
it's much appreciated
