Double Gig Bags

Re: Double Gig Bags

Gotta admit... I never even realized that they existed. Intriguing though... you'll have to update us once you get a chance to experience it!

Re: Double Gig Bags

I've had an old Fender one forever, the bottom strap buttons eventually poked thru the material, but nothing some cardboard/foam couldn't remedy...

Re: Double Gig Bags

I've seen a lot of raves about the MONO double bag. Not cheap but MONO makes great stuff.

Re: Double Gig Bags

I thought about getting a double bag for my Music Mans. Obviously it would be heavier, but any downsides to having one?

I've heard horror stories about double bags breaking, especially at the straps or handles.

I was going to go with the Road Runner double bag, as the sturdiest gig bag I have currently is a Road Runner Roadster. But multiple reviewers said the handles broke and their guitars fell. I can only imagine that happen when running through an airport. So I started researching pricier bags.

So, cheaper double bag, you have increased risk of bag failure and damage. That's the only downside I can think of.

What's false?

I did a lot of research before buying.

I started out looking for a double version of the Road Runner Roadster I already have. But there were multiple reviews of the handles/straps giving out and I didnt want to risk it.

I tried to buy through my local music store but the only one they could get was the Gator which also had mixed reviews and cost more than the Roadster.

World Tour (Amazon house brand) has a double case but I have a world tour 20mm single bag that is very disappointing. Thomann also had a house brand bag, I couldnt find much about it.

So I asked on a bunch of forums for recommendations. Without fail the Reunion bag and the Mono bag got the most recommendations. The Mono bag looked much thicker in pictures, and I couldnt find actual specs, but I wanted a bag thin enough to fit in overhead bins. That and the Reunion being half the price made my decision. At the time I couldnt find any negative reviews of the Reunion, however AFTER ordering I found one that said the bag has no rubber bumpers on the bottom and tends to wear through at the bottom. So now I'm nervous.

It wont be delivered for a couple weeks.

This is by far one of the weirdest online responses I have received.

I am a freelance session musician, church organist, and play for a few local bands. I also occasionally work for a ceiling fan museum. Not sure how anything I've posted in this thread could get me fired from any of those things, but hey, take your best shot.

Re: Double Gig Bags

I have a Mono M80 Dual Electric and love it. The only downside I can see is that two guitars inside of one case is fairly heavy no matter how you slice it. Even if they are fairly light guitars.

Havent heard anything bad about the MONO other than the price. My tech told me MONO was the only way to do. I dont think he was familiar with this one, however, we'll see what he thinks.

It cant be any heavier than carrying two gig bags at once which is what I currently do if I have two or more guitars.

It just depends on what you're doing. If I am walking and want to carry everything in one load, then I like being able to wear the M80 dual like a backpack, then both of my hands are open for other things. But it IS heavy on your back. If I'm in a situation where I can make multiple trips, then it can actually be easier to just carry two single cases because it balances better having one in each hand. Just giving another viewpoint on the matter. As I said, I do love my M80, but there are situations where other options work better. That's why I have multiple bags/cases.

Re: Double Gig Bags

I'd just really like to be able to take more than one guitar on fly-in gigs, and since the caliber of gigs that I currently do are not paying for road cases or checked bags, I figure this is my best shot.

I was doing a live DVD taping in Los Angeles a few years ago. Broke a string during one of the most guitar heavy songs and had no backups. I ran backstage between songs.

It seems like you're taking this a bit far. The guy seems pretty legitimate to me, perhaps you could give him the benefit of the doubt? :dunno:

Re: Double Gig Bags

When it arrives, I will make an unboxing video on my YouTube channel, linked previously in this thread.
