Double thick ceramic magnets?

IME, double thick magnets tend to be stronger than single thickness ones if charged in the same way.

Mixing ceramic and AlNiCo is possible but not necessarily something that I would recommend, for various reasons. YMMV.

I've switched from single to double thickness ceramic in a few pickups, for more power and (at least to my ears) more low end. I've also added spacer magnets. I've only got one pickup with a blend of magnets, kind of a weird humbucker - Elysian Trident II with a row of A5 slugs instead of screw poles. It sounded very clear and kind of brittle in my 6 string Schecter with a single ceramic, so I put in a double thick ceramic, along with a ceramic spacer on the other side (under the regular steel slug coil). It's still very clear but the bigger/extra magnets added some much needed girth, and now it keeps up with my other screamers. I am also curious about the long term effect of this mix on the A5 slugs.

I am curious why? I love my Heretic pickups, they sound fantastic.

You're talking here about pickups with mixed ceramic and AlNiCo magnets. Tried and approved designs that builders wouldn't have commercialized if these products weren't magnetically stable.

I was talking about mixing alloys: not sure I would put a weakly gaussed A3 upon or under a fully charged ceramic 8 bar to form a double thick magnet or repelling each other on each side of the screw poles in a P90. Unless I'd want my magnetometer to notice what Rex_Rocker said. :-)

Also, IME, each part added to a magnetic circuit in a potential source of squealing if not properly fastened / potted. Especially when the magnetic field becomes stronger.

Reasons why I've wrote that I wouldn't "necessarily" recommend a mix of magnets. If I had to apply this solution, I'd think twice about the mags used + their respective location and would use a magnetometer to measure their respective flux before/after a first mixing attempt. YMMV. ;-)

Double thick ceramic is worth using. It doesn't have the same deepening affect that can be awesome with alnico, but it does sound slightly less abrasive than regular thickness. But at the same time it boosts the output and makes it more in your face. So it doesn't really warm it up like double thick alnico. Mostly if you just want max output. Think of the pups it comes in. Black Winter, Invader, Distortion, etc.

You can use ceramic with alnico, but a double thick ceramic would run over any alnico you add. You're best off using alnico in the middle and ceramic spacers for a good balance of both, or even 1 ceramic spacer.
