Double thick magnet or side magents

Is there a tonal difference between using a double thick ceramic or a standard thick ceramic with ceramic spacer magnets?

I have a pickup with ceramic spacers that's a littlebass heavy, I guess one thick magnet will focus the magnetic field more, and that means... less bass? I could be wrong.

Stock Michael Kelly PAF plus pickup, 9k or so.
I've got a Patriot Victory, and the PAF plus in there has alnico magnet, the one in the Decree has a ceramic with two side magnets. It's a little bass heavy, and without the side magents it lacks some highs.

So, you want *more* bass or *less* bass? Sorry, wasn't quite clear between your first post and your last one...

What's your rig like? What amp are you playing through?

Re: Double thick magnet or side magents

I want less bass.

Without the side bars, it doesn't have enough clarity, with the sidebars, clarity is ok but too much bass.

Thx

lower the pickup? Raise the polepieces if you want to tighten things up a bit.

Re: Double thick magnet or side magents

Using shorter pole piece screws reduces boomy bass fairly well. You should experiment with the pickup by lowering it and raising the polepieces to see if that will fix it first.

Re: Double thick magnet or side magents

I got 5/8 inch sd hex poles from masta' c some time ago and they reined in and tightened up the bass just right. That length will probably be flush with the baseplate if you use a double thick magnet inside. Still, with a regular thickness magnet, it’s only an 1/8 past the bottom, which does the job pretty well on mine.
